Entrepreneurs, Sébastien Roevens and Aubin Delavigne, former students of the Steiner School in Geneva, founded Welo (Taxibike) in 2011. Their activities around soft mobility (tourism, advertising, delivery, events...) are spread over Zurich, Geneva and Basel.
Could you tell us about your background and experience at the Steiner School in Geneva?
We met at the Steiner school in Geneva where we spent several years. A beautiful friendship was born right away.
In the framework of our curriculum, our main teacher was Geneviève Baumann. She allowed us to make many trips. Carried away by enthusiasm, a taste for discovery and a touch of audacity, at the age of 14, we said to ourselves "Let's go around the world!
At 21 years old, we realized this dream. After saving up our money, we went on our "world tour". We visited many countries. We decided to travel without planes or hotels, as part of a human and eco-responsible approach.
Then, we continued our studies and obtained bachelor's degrees (Sébastien Roevens obtained a bachelor's degree in law, Aubin Delavigne a bachelor's degree in translation).
How does your idea of creating a business around the bicycle start?
During our trip around the world, we landed in Cuba. It was there that we discovered the cab bikes of Havana and that our idea started to germinate. Then, after many adventures, we arrived in the USA in Key West, Florida. We worked there for several months as a bike cab driver.
After our trip and these great experiences, we came back to Switzerland and founded, in 2011, Taxibike which we recently renamed Welo.
Can you tell us about Welo (Taxibike)?
Through our itinerary, our background and our studies, we have had the will to create an eco-responsible, citizen and human company that promotes the Swiss heritage in all its diversity.
Whether you are a gourmet, a food lover or in search of discovery, we offer many thematic tours on board our tuk tuk, bike-taxis or on a bike: Chocolate, fondue, Afternoon Tea, the must-sees of Geneva, Urban Arts tour...
To promote our land and territory, Welo also offers walks through the vineyards. These bucolic walks combine the pleasure of the eyes and the taste buds. You will be able to enjoy the hilly landscapes, taste good wines and visit wine estates.
Around the bike, our company is deployed in various activities. We do delivery, transportation, tourism, advertising, events, team building and workshops.
The bicycle is the heart of our company, it is the DNA of our business.
