On September 9, Machi Paola Aroca Cayunao, originally from the Mapuche indigenous people of Chile, will come to speak at the School (in Room 12) about her experiences as a Machi (spiritual leader, shaman and healer) in the fields of health, nature protection and connection with spirits. Guillermo and Anne-Sophie Lois, former parents and close friends of the School, met her several years ago and invited her to Geneva. Born to a Basque father and Mapuche mother, after studying sociology in Chile, she worked as a social worker in Zurich. Back home, after 7 years in Switzerland, her destiny manifested itself and she became Machi. Today, Machi Paola is active in southern Chile, working with her people, who despite the promises of the Spanish conquerors, are still repressed and oppressed.
