Free play, the art of imagining

" Free play is essential to children's health and well-being; it fosters the development of creativity, imagination, self-confidence, self-efficacy and many other physical, social, cognitive and emotional skills. It promotes all aspects of learning."

United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child

With "free play", the child is the initiator of his activity, the creator, the inventor. He builds, stages, imagines.

It is thanks to his explorations and his personal experiences that the child arrives at the understanding of things and the organization of his thought. A concept for the child is only integrated perfectly if it is felt, perceived, explored and lived!

Carefully chosen, simple, unstructured toys (such as boards, cloth, rope, logs) allow for all kinds of creation.

Arranged by the child, the objects become a cabin, a boat, a castle, a fire truck, a rocket for space...

With the magic of imagination, the child arranges, organizes, stacks all sorts of objects to tell stories, play roles, imitate real life.

In our kindergartens, "free play" plays a central role, especially during the forest outings of the 1st and 2nd classes.

"The child builds his individuality, develops his own creativity, his initiative as a man of tomorrow in the free play of today."

Rudolf Steiner
